Computer Labs

The Photographic Communications program supports three state of the art Mac computer labs. Each lab includes the latest versions of the Adobe Creative Cloud software including Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom Classic and Premiere. Students learn how to edit images for printing, color management and use high-end Epson scanners and printers.

Lighting Studios

Students have access to five lighting studios. Two studios are dedicated to portrait photography, one table top studio for product photography, a freshman studio and finally a large studio with a white cyc wall. All the studios are fitted with commercial grade lighting, grip equipment, cameras and lenses.

Equipment Check Out Program

Students have access to over two million dollars worth of Nikon and Canon DLSR and mirrorless cameras, lenses, tripods, reflectors and lighting equipment.

Equipment can be checked out by on a 24-hour basis during the week, and also for a four-day period over the weekend. *Some restrictions apply—see Jayne Johnson, Digital Studio Specialist, (jane.johnson@nwc.edu) for more details about the equipment check-out program.

Darkrooms

To round out the student’s photographic education, the photographic communications program has two wet darkrooms. Students learn how to process black and white 35 mm and 4x5 film, expose color negative and color slide film and create alternative historical prints.
